Target Working With Best Buy To Hire Geek Squad Staff
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A life line has been thrown to some of Best Buy's Geek Squad from an unlikely source.
Minneapolis-based Target Stores is beginning a test program with cross town retailer Best Buy. Come this fall, Best Buy is placing some of its Geek Squad tech-support staff in Target stores as part of a pilot program between the two chains.
The Denver Post reported Thursday that all 28 Denver-area Targets will be staffed with Geek Squad technicians starting in October. Only one Target store in the Twin Cities is part of the test.
A Target official said the partnership will let it offer customers more expertise with interconnecting mobile and home electronics. Target's aim is to dip its toes into the service market. For the troubled Richfield-based Best Buy, this is a chance to build out its services business, saving some jobs.
