Target Won't Sell Frank Ocean's New Album
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Frank Ocean is the R&B star of the moment, with a critically-acclaimed new album and a lot of buzz surrounding his recent statements on his sexuality.
But you won't find his album at Target stores, according to reports.
Target has found itself in the center of a controversy after the retailer said it has chosen not to stock Ocean's debut album "Channel Orange" because Def Jam released the album one week early on iTunes.
But buzz surrounding the move is focused on whether it had anything to with Ocean's admission on Tumblr last week that the first person he fell in love with was a man. Ocean's manager tweeted an insinuation to that effect.
Target issued a statement responding to the controversy, saying: "The claims made about Target's decision to not carry the Frank Ocean album are absolutely false. Target supports inclusivity and diversity in every aspect of our business. Our assortment decisions are based on a number of factors, including guest demand."
Earlier this month, Ocean posted a piece of writing on his Tumblr account that read: "4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19. He was too. We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Everyday almost. And on the days we were together, time would glide ... It was my first love, it changed my life."
