Target: All Registers Back Online After Nationwide Outage
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Target says all registers are back online Saturday evening after an "internal technology issue" caused a nationwide outage.
Target confirmed the outage was not related to a data breach or security issue.
Registers across the nation were down for hours, leaving customers unable to check out.
Patricia Peuschold tried to check out twice at the St. Louis Park Target.
"I came back, got in line and once again the registers stopped working and we were told to leave our merchandise and everything is on standstill," Peuschold said.
As you can imagine, this is one costly outage. A closer look at the company's financial summary from 2018 shows it did roughly $74 billion in sales last year alone -- that means every hour customers aren't making a purchase, Target potentially loses millions.
Roughly three hours after the company announced the outage on Twitter, Target said the glitch was fixed. Even after the announcement, however, some Minnesota locations were still resetting.
"It's just really alarming to think that it can be controlled through a system that is very vulnerable," Peuschold said.
