Target Field Prepping For Chesney, McGraw Concert
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Target Field will be seeing a lot of cowboy hats this weekend instead of baseball caps.
On Wednesday night, Kenny Chesney performed at the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular in New York City. But, this Sunday, he'll be performing at Target Field with Tim McGraw.
"This is by all accounts the largest summer concert of the year, you get a couple of country stars of the magnitude of Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw, and it's the biggest one," said Kevin Smith, the executive director of communications for the Twins.
Approximately 40,000 people are expected at the concert, and the stage is being built right now. It is one of two identical stages with lights and sound gear that leap-frog around the country, so the Brothers of the Sun tour can play Chicago on Saturday night and Minneapolis on Sunday night.
There are 300 crew members to set up and take down all the scaffolding and electronics. Promoters are hoping for a break in the heat by show time.
"Of course we'll be ready for that. We play a lot of warm baseball games here during the summer, so we've got ways to keep people cooled down, whether they are on the floor or around the concourses, or even the upper levels as well," said Smith.
The Twins want concert goers to remember that once you are in the stadium, you cannot leave and be re-admitted.
So, once you are in, you're in. The gates open at 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
