Target Center Renovation Talks Stretch On
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Much has been publicized about the new Vikings stadium, but very little in regards to the Target Center.
When lawmakers approved a new Vikings stadium last year, part of the deal allowed the City of Minneapolis to pay for Target Center renovations.
But while stadium plans move forward, Target Center remains quiet.
Last year, when lawmakers approved a $975 million Vikings stadium, they also approved $100 million in Target Center renovations.
A year and a half later, negotiations are still on-going between the City of Minneapolis, the Timberwolves and arena manager, AEG.
If a deal is worked out by the end of the year, construction could begin next summer and be completed by the end of 2015.
But what will the renovations include?
The parties involved are staying tight lipped, but there's reason to believe they're hoping to make Target Center a destination for concert goers.
Some upgrades may be made to the concourse and loading docks.
A team spokesman also said they're hoping to add amenities that fans are seeing at other new sports facilities in town.
If all sides agree, plans for a Target Center rebound could be revealed in just a couple months.
A team spokesman said Target Center is expected to remain open for games and other events during the renovation.
