Ceremony Marks Tip Off Of Target Center Renovation
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – As one stadium is close to being finished, another is undergoing a major renovation.
Target Center in downtown Minneapolis is beginning an 18-month remodeling project.
On Wednesday, officials from the city of Minneapolis joined together with officials from Target Center, the Timberwolves and Lynx to commemorate the beginning of the project.
"As the manager of this iconic venue, AEG Facilities is committed to providing our teams, tours and fans with one of the best arena experiences in the world. We are very excited to finally break ground on this monumental project," Target Center vice president and general manager Steve Mattson said in a recent press release.
Mayor Betsy Hodges, Timberwolves & Lynx CEO Rob Moor, city council member Lisa Goodman and Mattson announced the start of the renovations by swinging the first sledgehammers.
"These renovations will preserve and enhance the Target Center as an entertainment venue for decades," Hodges said in a recent press release.
The renovation will include new suite offerings, a new sound system, new stadium lights, refreshed restrooms, better seating and the largest center-hung arena scoreboard in the upper Midwest.
Mortenson Construction, in association with Thor Construction, will be the management team for the renovation project.
Mortenson and Thor have worked on several other sports venues, including Target Field, U.S. Bank Stadium, Xcel Energy Center and TCF Bank Stadium.
