Suspicious Bills Showing Up At Local Businesses
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some companies around the Twin Cities say a corporation they've never done business with is sending them bills for hundreds of dollars.
At least a half a dozen companies have contacted the Better Business Bureau about Minneapolis Classified Publishing.
Standard Heating and Air Conditioning, a business in north Minneapolis, contacted the Better Business Bureau after an employee didn't think the bill looked right.
"When I got the invoice through the mail, I didn't recognize the name," said Zoua Her of Standard Heating and Air Conditioning. "So I checked it against our list and contacted my boss. We didn't do business with them."
The bill is for $498.88 and asks for checks payable to be sent to a PO Box in Minneapolis.
"We were lucky enough to catch it. I'm sure there are many companies out there who don't," said Troy Gregory, president of Standard Heating and Air Conditioning. "We're a small business and I don't want to see anyone taken advantage of."
The corporate offices are called Career Classified Publishing and they're base out of Chicago. They said they had regional offices, but didn't know where their Minneapolis building was located.
There is no company at the address listed on the Better Business Bureau website.
Employees said to leave a message in order to speak with a manager, but the call was not returned.
If you think you've received the bill, the United States Postal Service is now also investigating, because it goes against its regulations. You can contact them at 1-877-876-2455.
