Sunflower Masterpiece Flanks Minneapolis Highway
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Most of us have been encouraged to "stop and smell the roses," but a local photographer is encouraging everyone to "stop, and smell the sunflowers." He's decided to use a grassy hill on the side of Highway 62 as his canvas.
Drivers may have noticed the 600-foot row of tall sunflowers planted on the north side of the Hwy 62 Crosstown between Cedar and 28th Avenues.
Tom Henry said he lives in the area, and he'd always thought the spot would be a great place to have something beautiful, and something people taking walks -- or sitting in traffic -- could enjoy.
With the permission and a little funding from the Metropolitan Airport Commission, Henry planted the row of 365 sunflowers, each for every day of the year.
Henry, who created a Facebook page, said its his first time gardening.
