Sun Country Pilots Approve New Contract With 'Substantial Raises'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Sun Country Airlines pilots have approved a new contract that their representatives say will provide them with "substantial pay raises" and other benefits.
According to a press release, the new contract was signed Thursday afternoon at the Sun Country hangar at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
This development comes after two weeks of voting and five years of negotiations.
No details on the contract were released, except for the fact it will become amendable on Nov. 1, 2020.
According to the their representatives, the pilots ratified a tentative agreement reached last month by a margin of 87 percent to 13 percent.
Nearly 95 percent of the airline's 250 union pilots cast ballots.
Marty Davis, owner of Sun Country Airlines, said he was pleased to have found common ground with the pilots.
"Our pilots are outstanding leaders of our airline and their efforts and performance at this company has been exemplary for many, many years," he said in a statement.
Prior to the new contract, Sun Country pilots said they were the lowest-paid 737 pilots of any airline.
