Students Send 'Thank You' Cards To Vets
OAKDALE (WCCO) -- Some service member somewhere is about to get a thank you card from a second grader in Oakdale, Minn. Classmates at Transfiguration Catholic School are among those taking part in Operation Gratitude.
"And we're writing these cards because they're far, far away from their home," said one student named Mary Kate.
As many as 75,000 cards are being offered for free to schools by PearTree Greetings of North Mankato.
One second grader wrote, "I have a dog, a cat and a fish. Thank you for saving our country and other countries."
The cards may be free, but the messages they include are priceless.
One student named Alexa wrote, "I have a relative that is a soldier. If you know him, his name is Buddy. I hope you meet him. Please keep him safe. Love, Alexa."
PearTree Greetings is offering the cards to teachers between now and the end of the year. As of Veterans Day, the company is about one-third of the way to its goal, with more than 800 teachers signed up.
