Student Sentenced To Workhouse For Uptown Hit-And-Run
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 19-year-old University of Minnesota student was sentenced earlier this week to 180 days in the county workhouse after pleading guilty to seriously injuring a man in a Minneapolis hit-and-run last June.
Tyler Adam Braunschweig pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular operation in the hit-and-run that left Matthew Call of Arden Hills injured in Uptown, near the intersection of Lyndale Avenue and 24th Street, court documents say.
Call suffered two broken legs, a fractured pelvis and broken vertebrae in the June 27 incident. He was just getting into his car after leaving work at Urban Bean when Braunschweig hit him with an SUV.
It took months for authorities to find and arrest Braunschweig.
They located the SUV after finding that an insurance claim was filed for an accident around the same time as the hit-and-run. In the claim, it said the SUV hit a deer.
As a result of the guilty plea, Braunschweig was sentenced to 190 days in the Hennepin County workhouse. He is eligible for work release, but he must remain drug-and-alcohol free, and submit to random tests.
