Strong Winds Near Waconia Causing Treacherous Driving Conditions
WACONIA, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's not bad if you're in town in Waconia, protected by buildings and trees, but venture out into the open and it gets downright nasty.
Strong winds Wednesday pushed snowdrifts onto roadways, making for whiteout conditions.
"The winds are whipping, makes for slick roads, gotta be careful," said Joel Ide, a truck driver.
He wrestled with his big rig Wednesday, driving grain from Mankato to Carver County.
From the Red River Valley to the Iowa border, blizzard conditions are whipping up deep snow. In wide open areas, the blowing snow is glazing pavement and drifting across highways, reducing visibility.
The north-south roads seem to be getting the worst of it. That's because westerly winds are driving the snow and drifts directly across the pavement.
Makes you wonder, just what this brutal winter is going to throw at us next.
"I am very tired of it, but spring is coming soon, right?" Ide said.
