ST. CLOUD, Minn. (WCCO) -- Police in Stearns County have traced a string of false reports to a newspaper delivery man from Sauk Rapids.
According to the county sheriff's office, the false reports began coming into 911 from a cell phone that hadn't been activated.
The calls began at the beginning of the year and continued over the course of two months.
Among the reports that were made falsely were an abduction and sexual assault, explosive devices allegedly planted in a police squad car and a Sauk Rapids school, and a report that the caller had shot his wife and placed her body in a public park.
Another call he placed claimed a vehicle fire with the caller's wife and children inside the vehicle. On that occasion, the caller threatened to commit suicide by driving into the Mississippi River.
Police were able to track the calls to 36-year-old Dexter Eugene Bingham Jr.
Bingham made the calls while at work on his morning route delivering copies of the St. Cloud Times.
Bingham has been taken into custody and is being held at Stearns County Jail on two counts of making terroristic threats.
