Freighter Stranded On Lake Superior Heads For Repairs
CLEVELAND (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says a freighter that ran aground last month is headed for repairs.
Coast Guard officials in Cleveland said Saturday that the 833-foot cargo vessel called the Roger Blough was given permission for the first leg of its journey to the shipyard in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The freighter weighed anchor from Waiska Bay in Lake Superior just before 11:30 a.m.
The Blough had been anchored at Waiska Bay since June 4 after running aground on a reef in Whitefish Bay, off Michigan's Upper Peninsula, on May 27. All crew members were safe and remained aboard.
