Storms Cut Power To 8,000+, Level Trees In The South Metro
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Heavy rain and winds have wreaked havoc throughout the metro Saturday evening.
Xcel Energy reported that over 8,000 homes are without power throughout the metro, with the East metro alone suffering through 7,500 outages. By late Saturday night, that number had dropped to around 2,000.
Residents of Burnsville have reported downed trees, specifically near McAndrews and County Road 11, as well as Burnhaven Drive and Nicollet and 134th/Parkwood.
St. Paul and South Minneapolis were also hit hard by rain and hail, with golf ball-sized hail spotted in West St. Paul.
WCCO meteorologist Matt Brickman says we can expect winds and scattered thunderstorms to last throughout the state well into early Sunday morning, with the main thrust to push through by midnight.
