Storm Winds Damage Sewer Line In New Brighton
NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. (WCCO) -- Residents of New Brighton are waiting to find out how a broken sewer near Long Lake will affect their homes.
Monday's severe winds toppled a tree that uprooted the top of a sewer line just off 16th Terrace Avenue. John Mortensen lives a short distance from the site and hasn't had a problem so far.
"I don't think it will be any problem for us, we're high enough," said Mortensen. "They haven't said, don't use your toilet. It's going to be interesting."
Mortensen isn't sure how he'll react if his sewer service is disrupted.
"How would you prepare for your sewer going out," he said. "Take a shower in your backyard? Wait until you get to work? Nobody has said anything."

Mortensen's home was not damaged by the high winds, but he did lose a few dahlias in his front yard. There are a few tree branches down in the area. Crews have put a temporary fix on the broken sewer line and officials today decide on a permanent fix.
