Storm Delays Start Of Red River Valley Flood Fight
FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Weather has delayed the sandbagging start in the Fargo and neighboring Moorhead, Minn., area.
Officials in Fargo say they had originally planned to start trucking sandbags to neighborhoods on Wednesday. Deputy mayor Tim Mahoney says the new start date will depend on the results of both a storm that's hitting the area and the next flood forecast from the National Weather Service.
The weather service plans to give its updated flood predictions on Friday or Saturday.
Moorhead officials say they will start delivering sandbags no earlier than Monday. They say they will monitor conditions on a day-by-day basis.
The metro area is expecting is third straight major Red River flood. Fargo has filled about 2.5 million sandbags and Moorhead has about 1.5 million bags ready for the flood fight.
