Kira Steger's Family Sues Husband Convicted Of Her Murder

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The family of a woman murdered by her husband is now suing him for more money.

Jeffrey Trevino is serving a 27-year sentence for the death of Kira Steger.

A jury convicted him in 2013 of killing her in their St. Paul home during a fight, and then dumping her body in the Mississippi River.

Steger's family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against him.

Because Trevino was convicted of unintentional murder, the family believes his homeowner's policy should cover Steger's death. They also want some of his union pension.

Trevino is not up for parole until 2031
