State Patrol: School Bus Involved In Fatal Accident In St. Paul
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities say one person is dead after a multi-vehicle accident involving a school bus on Interstate 94 in St. Paul Wednesday morning.
The Minnesota State Patrol says the accident happened at about 9:28 a.m. Wednesday on westbound Interstate 94 near the Cretin Avenue exit. Multiple State Patrol squad cars responded to the scene and for several hours, only one lane of westbound I-94 was available to traffic.
The accident involved four vehicles, including an SUV, minivan and the school bus, according to the State Patrol.
Eric Roeske with the State Patrol says at least one person has been killed in the accident.
Roeske reported that no students were aboard the bus at the time of the crash. A representative from St. Paul Public Schools also said no children from the school district were on the bus when the crash happened, but the bus had finished a route for St. Paul schools earlier Wednesday morning.
Authorities said the school bus rear-ended the minivan. The minivan was then pushed into an SUV that tipped on its side and rear-ended a Honda Accord.
A passenger in the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene, and five other occupants in the minivan were transported to the hospital. Roeske said the driver of the Honda Accord was also taken to the hospital, but the bus driver and the SUV driver were not hurt.
The name of the person who was killed has not yet been released. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
