State Patrol: 300+ Crashes From Winter Storm
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) – Sunday's winter storm left many roads north and west of the Twin Cities slippery and even caused highway closures in northwestern Minnesota.
The Minnesota State Patrol is urging motorists as they wake up Monday to leave early, drive slow and give themselves extra driving time for the morning commute. Authorities say since 10 a.m. Sunday, there have been 326 crashes with 42 involving injuries and one serious injury.
The State Patrol said there have been no fatality accidents, and 623 vehicles have either gone off the road or spun out. They are also reporting five jack-knifed semi-trucks.
Several highways in the area are closed, including Interstate 94 from Alexandria to Moorhead, and Highways 10 210. Sheriff's deputies in Grant and Douglas counties assisted drivers who became stranded.
The National Weather Service says Glenwood in Pope County got 12 inches of snow Sunday. Walker has about 11 inches and Hillman has 10 inches. The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported early Monday that most roadways in the state present difficult driving conditions.
Windy conditions Monday could make the morning commute in the Twin Cities more challenging.
