State Officials Hold Senior Fraud Prevention Forum
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- State officials are holding a fraud prevention forum to help senior citizens learn how they can protect themselves and their finances from scams.
Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon and Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman are heading up the forum in Duluth on Thursday.
Senior citizens are among the most vulnerable population when it comes to being victims of fraud and financial abuse. State officials say consumers over the age of 65 control 70 percent of the nation's wealth, and each year, con artists scam older Americans out of $2.5 billion.
The goal of the forum is to give senior citizens tools to protect their finances and raise their awareness about fraud.
