Injured Roseville Police Dog Makes Amazing Progress
(WCCO) -- A Roseville police dog that was beaten by a burglary suspect has done the seemingly impossible. He is barking and walking again.
Veterinarians at the University of Minnesota who have been taking care of Major, a German Shepherd that worked with the Roseville Police Department, say that he is now in therapy.
On Tuesday, he was eating and drinking normally and his wounds were healed.
Vets say that he has to relearn some basic functions like potty training, but the dog has made great strides in therapy.
Major was able to swim in an exercise tank over the weekend and vets are saying that the progress is very promising.
The dog suffered blunt trauma that likely damaged one of his vertebrae and other injuries.
Doctors say it might take six months to see how much Major regains his hind leg movement.
Major was injured as he chased a burglary suspect at a Maplewood business a few weeks ago. Three men, all in their 20s, were arrested and charged.
