Police: St. Thomas Academy Staffer Sent Inappropriate Texts To Multiple Students
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) -- A Twin Cities high school teacher has been fired over sending inappropriate text messages to students.
Police are investigating how many students were involved. Mendota Heights Police say so far three students have come forward.
The school sent a letter to parents last night explaining that an unnamed teacher has been let go.
St. Thomas Academy was abuzz Wednesday after students learned one of their teachers was abruptly fired.
"Everybody is still curious on what's happening. They don't know exactly so they don't want to start causing rumors or saying things they don't know," senior Sawyer Walser said.
Mendota Heights Police say the teacher, who has not been identified by officials, sent inappropriate text messages to at least three students.
In a letter sent to parents Tuesday night, the all-male college prep school's head master said the school learned Monday of "a situation involving a faculty member and what appears to be a small number of students."
School officials informed the Medota Heights Police and the Minnesota Department of Education.
They then fired the teacher.
A student told WCCO that they were told the name of the teacher at their daily school gathering Wednesday morning.
WCCO is not identifying the teacher because they have not been charged with a crime, but the student says the teacher was well-liked.
"Very surprised I think everyone is surprised," Walser said.
Mendota Heights Police will be interviewing students and parents in the coming days to determine the details of the case and if more students are involved.
"At St. Thomas nothing like this has happened," Walser said. "This is definitely not one of those schools."
In that letter that was sent to parents, the headmaster also said counselors were in place to help any students if they needed it.
It's possible it could be as late as next week before we learn more about the teacher involved.
