St. Peter Man's Home Floods 3 Times In 12 Months
ST. PETER, Minn. (WCCO) -- Gov. Mark Dayton is doing his best to put the mind's of Minnesotans at ease when it comes to eminent flooding this spring.
He told citizens in Mankato and Winona during preparedness meetings that thousands of National Guard soldiers are ready to help with flooding and he even gave out his home phone number in case anyone has problems.
But while Dayton's problem is statewide flooding, Chad Bock's problem is his own backyard.
"Pain in the butt, I'm sick of it," he said.
Bock is no stranger to what might happen when floodwaters start to rise. His home in St. Peter crosses paths with the Minnesota River which has become very familiar with Bock's basement.
"My foundation cracked and I had water gushing in and wrecked the foundation and the furnace and the water heater," he said.
Bock's home flooded both last spring and last fall, making this spring's flooding would make it the third time in 12 months.
He just got done fixing last year's damage and built his own sandbag wall but he's not entirely confident it's built to last.
"It's a headache, trying to get everything moved again and every time you get done with it, then it comes right back and bites you right in the butt," said Bock.
