St. Paul Teen Wins Chipotle Student Essay Contest
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The words of a 17-year-old St. Paul writer will soon appear on Chipotle bags nationwide, alongside the writings of literary greats like Toni Morrison, Jonathan Franzen and George Saunders.
The fast food Mexican chain said Monday that Fue Xiong's essay "Two Minutes About Sardines" was one of 10 winning pieces in its "Cultivating Thought" student essay contest.
Xiong, a senior at Central High School, was the only winner from Minnesota. He penned a deeply personal essay about a childhood memory of waiting in line for sardines at a refugee camp.
For his work, which will appear on Chipotle bags starting Monday, Xiong won a $20,000 scholarship.
