St. Paul Seek 2nd Suspect In RiverCentre Fight
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- St. Paul Police are still looking for a suspect who was involved in the stabbing two teens Saturday night at a Hmong New Year celebration inside the RiverCentre.
Police arrested 19-year-old Chee Kong Yang, of St. Paul after witnesses initially identified him as the person who stabbed a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy around 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hmong event.
But after more investigation on Sunday, police believe Yang participated in the fight but did not stab the teens.
The victims' injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Police say the stabbing could be gang-related but the motives are still under investigation. Officers responding to the scene also cited three adults and three juveniles for disorderly conduct in connection with the stabbing and fight.
Multiple fights were reported both inside the RiverCentre and in the hallways of the venue.
Officers were forced to close the gates to the event for at least 30 minutes while they led hundreds people out of the event and attempted to break up the fighting.
Two adults and two juveniles were also cited for a second fight at the RiverCentre, around the same time. No one was injured in that fight.
Yang is still being held at the Ramsey County Jail awaiting possible charges of felony riot.
