St. Paul Secures Land For New Park Near Green Line
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The green line is getting a new green space.
The city of St. Paul secured a five-acre property near Griggs Street and University Avenue Wednesday.
The city, along with the Trust for Public Land, acquired the property as part of its effort to create a park within a 10 minute walk for all residents.
This park will be located in an area that did not have a park within a 10 minute walk before.
"It is a rare opportunity to be able to create such a large, vibrant green space in an urban area," Mayor Chris Coleman in a recent press release. "We are thrilled that our collaboration with The Trust for Public Land will allow us to establish a community gathering space along the Green Line."
The Trust for Public Land will work over the next few years to raise funds and increase community engagement around the park.
It is currently being referred to as "park at Griggs." It will be named during the community planning process.
The new area is located near the Green Line's Lexington Parkway stop in St. Paul's Midway neighborhood.
