St. Paul Police: 14-Year-Old Dies In Stolen Vehicle Crash, 2 Arrested
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- St. Paul police say a 14-year-old boy has died and two other teenagers are in custody following a stolen vehicle crash incident.
According to police, the crash occurred near Rose Avenue East and Sylvan Street in the North End neighborhood just after 5 p.m. Monday. There, police say a driver of a stolen vehicle crashed at Rice Street and Ivy Avenue West, drove away and then crashed into a light pole on the southwest corner of Rose Avenue and Sylvan Street. Then, the vehicle flipped onto its side near a house and minivan.
Upon arrival, officers found a "gravely injured" teenage boy outside the crashed vehicle. He had been ejected from the vehicle in the crash. He later died at Gillette's Children's Hospital, police confirmed.
On Tuesday afternoon, the victim was identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office as Eh Da Lay, of St. Paul.
Police say a 16-year-old, who was driving the vehicle, was found walking on a street nearby and was arrested. Another 14-year-old boy was found in an alley hiding, and had a bag of narcotics in his pocket and was arrested. Both were taken to the hospital before being taken to juvenile detention.
The investigation continues. Police say it's unclear if the teenagers were involved in the theft of the vehicle, which was stolen last Friday in St. Paul.
