St. Paul Man Pleads Guilty To Sexual Assaults
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) - A St. Paul man pled guilty Monday of two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Courtney Lamont Osgood, 20, was charged in Ramsey District Court for two separate rapes, one carried out in 2007, and the second in 2011.
The 2007 case involved the rape of a 13-year-old girl on St. Paul's East Side, while the 2011 case involved the rape of Osgood's ex-girlfriend in the laundry room of their St. Paul apartment building.
Osgood, who was a juvenile at the time of the first rape, was certified as an adult to face the 2007 charge.
According to Ramsey County Attorney John Choi, Osgood's actions terrified St. Paul's East Side.
"This defendant created fear and uncertainty for an entire community and committed two horrific sexual assaults," said Choi. "We are very pleased with the defendant's plea of guilty today, which avoids a trial for the victims and holds the defendant accountable."
According to the 2011 complaint, St. Paul Police responded to an assault call on the 300 block of Concord Street. They met with the 18-year-old victim who reported Osgood had strangled and raped her after she attempted to break up with him.
In September of 2011, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension lab techs matched Osgood's DNA (obtained while he was in custody for an unrelated 2011 traffic violation) to his ex-girlfriend's sexual assault kit sample. Osgood's DNA also matched an evidentiary sample from the victim in a 2007 sexual assault case.
In the 2007 case, Osgood strangled and raped a 13-year-old girl near the 500 block of Hyacinth Avenue in St. Paul. He left his victim unconscious and face down in an alley
Osgood faces up to 30 years in prison. He will be sentenced on July 11.
