St. Paul Man Pens Song In Honor Of Slain Archbishop
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Saturday is the beatification of El Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero, a man who moved a Minnesotan to song.
Rob Hahn of St. Paul was taking a theology class at the University of Notre Dame when he learned about Romero, a champion of civil rights, who was shot and killed in 1980 while conducting mass.
That dedication to human rights inspired Hahn to write a song about the archbishop.
Hahn says he was not out to write a feel-good "Kumbaya" tune about the archbishop, calling his composition a rock song that tells a story.
That story is of a man Hahn says should have been honored by the church a long time ago.
Hahn says people commenting to him on social media say his song is gaining popularity, and becoming somewhat of an anthem to the archbishop's followers in El Salvador.
