Authorities: Man Killed By Vehicle In Pine Co. Had Been Drinking
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 23-year-old St. Paul man was killed Sunday night after getting hit by a car in Pine County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Authorities said the crash happened at about 8:22 p.m. Sunday on Highway 23 near Wildwood Road in Brook Park, Minn.
The State Patrol said a 71-year-old man from Stanchfield, Minn., was driving a 2008 Toyota Prius westbound on Highway 23 when he hit the pedestrian.
When authorities arrived, they tried rendering first aid to the seriously injured man on the roadway. He was taken to a local hospital when the ambulance arrived. He was later pronounced dead at Saint Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
Authorities have identified the victim as Ryan C. Lockart of St. Paul.
The Pine County Sheriff says that investigators found that the victim and another male relative were previously drinking at a local tavern. An altercation occurred and the two men left the tavern in their pick-up truck. During the drive home, the two men argued, stopped the pick-up and engaged in a scuffle. The male related reentered the pick-up and drove away, leaving the victim along the road.
Investigators found what appear to be a set of the victims foot prints leading from the site of the scuffle, traveling down a county road and onto State Highway 23 where the victim was struck by a motorist.
The driver remained at the scene, cooperated with the investigation and no charges were issued.
The adult male relative was located at Saint Mary's Hospital where he was charged with DWI by the Minnesota State Patrol.
The incident remains under investigation.
