St. Louis County Commissioner In U.S. Senate Race
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Another Republican has jumped into the race for the Minnesota U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Al Franken.
St. Louis County Commissioner Chris Dahlberg confirmed Wednesday that he's a candidate in the race, which also includes two Republican state legislators -- Sen. Julianne Ortman and Rep. Jim Abeler. Businessman Mike McFadden, making his first run for political office, is also seeking the Republican nomination. He's on leave as co-CEO of Lazard Middle Market, a financial management firm.
The 51-year-old Dahlberg says he realizes he's not well known outside of northeastern Minnesota, so he will work to meet as many people as he can in the coming year. Dahlberg confirmed his candidacy after Stanley Hubbard, CEO of Hubbard Broadcasting, recently emailed friends and colleagues and told them Dahlberg "has several qualities that make him a particularly strong candidate."
