St. Croix Bridge Bill Now Awaits Obama's OK
WASHINGTON (WCCO) -- The fate of a new bridge over the St. Croix River is now in the hands of President Obama, who is expected to approve the $700 million project.
It would replace the aging Stillwater lift bridge with a four-lane highway connecting Oak Park Heights and St. Joseph, Wis.
The plan was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday.
Critics say the big project is too expensive, and will hurt the environment.
Supporters say it will bring an economic boost to the area, and ease congestion.
