St. Cloud State Breaks Through To The Frozen Four

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- On Sunday night, St. Cloud State made hockey history by reaching its first Frozen Four.

The Huskies got two goals from freshman Joey Benik, and beat Miami 4-1 in Toledo, Ohio.

For a program that had gotten so close, so many times...the celebration was surreal.

And it continued when the Huskies got home, at the St. Cloud Regional Airport.

"We walked in, there was probably 100-200 people waiting to congratulate us," said Jonny Brodzinski, a freshman forward for the Huskies.

Coach Bob Motzko said his team didn't quite know how to react.

"It was that innocent moment, that vulnerable moment, for our guys. To watch them soak it in...it was special," he said.

But that moment was actually years in the making, starting with a simple sign Motzko hung in the locker room.

The sign read: IT CAN HAPPEN HERE.

"You've just gotta keep believing that you can break through," Motzko said. "And you've gotta keep that instilled in your program, and into your kids especially."
