St. Cloud St. Beats Wisconsin 4-2
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Garret Roe had two goals and St. Cloud State scored three times in the second period to beat Wisconsin 4-2 on Friday.
The Huskies' win, combined with Minnesota's win over Michigan Tech, dropped the Badgers to sixth place behind the Golden Gophers in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. The top six teams get home ice for the first round of the WCHA playoffs.
Roe's first goal gave the Huskies (13-15-5, 9-12-4) a 3-0 lead in the second period. He added an insurance goal in the third period.
Travis Novak and Jordy Christian also scored for the Huskies.
The 13th-ranked Wisconsin (19-12-4, 11-11-3) got goals from Justin Schultz and Jordy Murray. Schultz's 17th goal is tops in the nation by a defenseman. He also has a nation-best 45 points.
Schultz's goal at 39 second of the third period made it a two-goal game, but Roe's second goal less than four minutes later extended the Huskies' lead.
St. Cloud State is playing a nationally ranked opponent for the fourth straight weekend. It has scored six points in the last three weekends.
