St. Cloud Police: Burglar Arrested After Threatening Teen, Fleeing Officers
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 20-year-old St. Cloud man is in jail after he allegedly threatened a 17-year-old girl with handguns and fled from police into an apartment building Saturday afternoon.
According to St. Cloud police, officers responded to the 1000 block of 9th Avenue South on Saturday at 2:06 p.m. to the report of threats involving two possible handguns.
When they arrived, they learned the teenage girl from St. Cloud had been verbally threatened by a man saying he had two guns. Police say they located the suspect – identified as Tyre Dupree Neal -- nearby in the area of South Side Park.
When officers attempted a pat down search of Neal, he fled, police said. The officers followed him south across 13th Street and 14th Street South. Eventually, officers were waved down by the renter of an apartment on the 1400 block of 9th Avenue South.
There, Neal allegedly entered an apartment where a family with four young children live and who were home at the time. He was not known to anyone in the family.
Police say that when Neal saw that police were outside the apartment, he ran to the lower level of the apartment and tried to hide. After officers got the family out of the apartment, they talked with Neal until he surrendered without any further incident.
Officers later found two loaded handguns that were discarded in some bushes along the route they pursued Neal.
Neal was taken to the Stearns County Jail where he's being held on first-degree burglary, fifth-degree assault, obstructing legal process, fleeing on foot and two counts of carrying a firearm without a permit.
