St. Cloud Man, 23, Gets Life Sentence For Torture, Sex Assault
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 23-year-old St. Cloud man has received a life sentence in prison for torturing and sexually assaulting a 21-year-old woman, according to the Stearns County Attorney's Office.
On Thursday, James David Bryson was given his sentence with the possibility of release for first-degree criminal sexual conduct occurring on Aug. 22, 2011. He'll have to serve at least 180 months before considerations for release.
According to a criminal complaint, Bryson assaulted his victim at her apartment, located on the 300 block of 6th Avenue South, at around 5:50 a.m. Bryson sexually assaulted his victim and left her with wounds all over her body.
Police found Bryson near the University Bridge after hearing a report of a man jumping into the Mississippi River at 6:15 a.m. Bryson had on only a T-shirt when police found him.
Bryson and his victim were not acquaintances, police said.
Bryson's life sentence is based upon his admission that he tortured the victim.
