Spring Lake Park Man Accused Of Beating, Cutting Woman
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 40-year-old Spring Lake Park man faces multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted and cut a woman whom he'd had an on-and-off relationship with for five years.
Benjamin Paul Adams is charged with kidnapping, second-degree assault, third-degree assault, domestic assault and terroristic threats in connection to the Oct. 21 incident.
According to the charges, Anoka County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a business on the 8400 block of Center Drive NE on a report of a woman who had been severely beaten and her wrists slit.
When depuities arrived, the victim told officers that she had been assaulted and held against her will at Adams' apartment.
On the evening of Oct. 20, she said she had been staying at Adams' apartment when she learned that Adams had placed a "spy wear" application on her cell phone, allowing him to monitor her phone activity from his computer. While smoking methamphetamines, he accused her of having sex with other men, the complaint said.
Later, Adams allegedly became more enraged when he found what he believed to be the voice of a man on the victim's phone. He then began assaulting her, including using a razor blade to cut her across the length of her left wrist, according to the complaint.
Adams allegedly told the victim that he had video cameras and monitors all over to ensure that she couldn't leave the apartment and, at one point, forced her to lock the front door when he believed law enforcement arrived.
The victim ran out of the apartment at 2:55 a.m., ran toward Eagle Brook Church and was chased by Adams, who tried to drag her back to the apartment. Adams gave up and ran back to the apartment when the victim held onto a pole, according to the criminal complaint. A passerby then helped her call 911.
The victim was then taken to the hospital with multiple abrasions, bruising and two large cuts across her left wrist, which required stitches.
If convicted, Adams could face more than 40 years in prison.
