Spirit Airlines Adds 4 Non-Stop Flights From Twin Cities
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It just got a little easier to fly non-stop from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to at least four cities. In the process, it got a little cheaper too.
Officials with Spirit Airlines announced Monday they're providing non-stop service to four more cities across America, starting in early November. They're already offering flights from the Twin Cities to Denver, Dallas-Forth Worth, Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers non-stop.
Spirit Airlines also offers flights to Chicago and Las Vegas.
The latest cities Spirit Airlines has added include Los Angeles, Phoenix, Orlando and Tampa. Travelers will be able fly to those cities from the Twin Cities starting Nov. 7. The company now offers flights to as many as 10 cities nationwide. Industry experts said it will decrease prices to these cities and surrounding cities for all airlines as they compete for the consumer's dollar.
Airport officials said they picked the four new cities because research shows that's where Minnesotans are flying. The airline is known for its cheaper tickets, but pricier add-ons like a $100 fee for a carry-on bag. Airline experts said the adding of cities for Spirit Airlines is a win for the consumer since the major airlines will be competing more with each other.
Some airlines are more likely to match the prices Spirit Airlines offers on some tickets. But some customers said they are still skeptical of constantly-changing ticket prices.
"It still depends on the price and the length of travel for myself," said traveler Doreen Betcher.
Spirit Airlines prices are expected to be permanent and travelers can start booking tickets immediately.
