Southwest LRT Project Leaders Work To Find Path Forward
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Gov. Mark Dayton held a meeting Friday with key players in the Southwest light rail transit project to figure out a way to get the project back on track.
The project was postponed last month.
"We really appreciate the Governor getting all sides together to make sure we are on the same track," said Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, who was in attendance.
Minneapolis residents are worried about the environmental impact of a proposed route through the Kenilworth Corridor and want to look again at moving freight lines.
St. Louis Park city councilmember Anne Mavity says residents are concerned about re-routing freight trains in their neighborhoods.
"St. Louis Park is very supportive of light rail. At the same time, if there is another viable option for freight rail, it should be considered," Mavity said.
There is still no timeline for when the project will move forward, but a vote on the final route has been postponed at least three months.
