Southern Minnesota Canning Plant To Close
ARLINGTON, Minn. (AP) — City officials say Seneca Foods plans to close a vegetable canning plant in Arlington in southern Minnesota.
Arlington Mayor Jim Kreft says representatives from Seneca's regional office told employees of the closing last week.
Kreft tells The Journal of New Ulm that city officials learned from people at the meeting that the plant will remain open for 60 to 90 days, maybe a few months longer.
Corporate officials say they are working with Arlington employees on relocation options at other Seneca plants.
Seneca chief financial officer Tim Benjamin confirmed to KEYC-TV that the Arlington plant will be closing due to economic difficulties.
Marion, New York-based Seneca employed 46 full-time employees and about 150 seasonal workers at the plant.
Arlington has had a canning plant for more than a century.
