Southbound I-494 Closure In West Metro Set For Friday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Motorist should expect a detour if they are planning on taking southbound Interstate 494 in the western Twin Cities metro area this weekend, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Starting Friday at 10 p.m., southbound I-494 will be closing between I-694/94 in Maple Grove and I-394 in Minnetonka. Crews will be painting two bridges over I-494, repair concrete and stripe sections of the interstate.
All southbound I-494 ramps in the area in question will be closed, including ramps from southbound I-494 to eastbound I-394, and westbound I-394 to southbound I-494.
Motorists will be detoured around the closure via eastbound I-694/94, southbound Highway 169, westbound I-394, southbound Carlson Parkway and eastbound I-394 to southbound I-494.
The interstate work is part of an overall two-year construction project on I-494 that includes repairing the interstate's pavement, adding a third lane on the interstate between Highway 55 and I-94/694, and building noise walls.
The closure will be in place until 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.
