Life In Prison For Man Convicted In Fatal South St. Paul Stabbing
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 59-year-old South St. Paul man convicted of murder in an August 2015 stabbing death of a woman was sentenced to life in prison on Monday.
Thomas Michael Luby was convicted of first-degree and second-degree murder last month in the Aug. 7, 2015 stabbing death of Kelly Ann Anderson.
According to the charges, police were called early on the morning of Aug. 7 by Luby. He told dispatchers there was a dead woman in his house and that he killed her in self-defense. When officers got to the home, they discovered Luby covered in dried blood and Anderson lying in the living room of the home face up with a large knife in her hand.
Anderson had visible stab wounds on her body and neck. The 45-year-old woman died from stab wounds to her jugular vein and carotid artery, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner. She also had several other wounds to her mouth and face.
The charges state Luby later told police the two had been drinking and got into a fight. He denied placing the knife in Anderson's hand after the stabbing.
