Souris River Flood Battle Is Deja Vu For MN Man
MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- A man who met his future wife in Minot 43 years ago and helped battle the Souris River flood of 1969 is back helping out this year's flood victims.
Manual Madrid Jr. and his wife, JoAnn, are now majors in the Salvation Army.
Manuel joined the Air Force in 1965 in San Francisco and was sent to Minot. He began volunteering with the Salvation Army while at Minot Air Force Base. He also met JoAnn, who was in a Salvation Army officer training program in Chicago.
They eventually married and have served in several states. Once the Minnesota couple's mission in Minot is complete they will have only three weeks left of active Salvation Army duty. Manual jokes that he had hoped the last appointment would be an easy one.
