Cops: 1 Shot, Others Hurt In N Mpls. Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Four people were hospitalized – and a man suffered gunshot wounds – Friday evening after a shooting and related car crashes on the city's north side.
Minneapolis police say the shooting happened just before 8 p.m. near the intersection of Lowry Avenue and Knox Avenue.
An officer in a marked squad car spotted two cars driving recklessly right in front of him. When they stopped at the intersection, a suspect in one of the cars fired shots at the other.
The car that was fired on, a Dodge Charger, took off going west on Lowry, and hit another car. That car, which was also going west, crashed.
The Charger then continued going west. But it was shot at again, and crashed.
The shooter escaped in a vehicle. Police are looking for the suspect.
Four people were hospitalized at North Memorial Medical Center, police say. One man was shot, and the others suffered injuries as a result of the two crashes.
None of the injuries are life-threatening, police say.
The shooting is under investigation, but police say that an increased number of officers on the north side isn't going to stop the violence in the area.
"We are not able to make it stop," said police spokesman John Elder. "The police department isn't going to be the magic solution. It's going to take the community, it's going to take a lot of things to come together."
