Some Local Businesses Say NYE Is Their Busiest Day Of The Year
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Several Twin Cities metro area businesses say New Year's Eve marks their busiest day of the year.
Of course, things are typically hustling and bustling at local liquor stores. WCCO caught large lines at Surdyk's Liquor & Cheese Shop in Northeast Minneapolis.
People said they were not just gathering bottles of champagne and sparkling wine, but also such things as cheese platters and other appetizers.
"Everyone likes to have a drink for New Year's, so they've got to come and get their sparkling," Melissa Surdyk said.
The big sellers at Surdyk's beyond the bubbly are local spirits for those homemade craft cocktails.
Possibly more surprising than liquor stores, Coastal Seafoods in Minneapolis says their sales are fastest on New Year's Eve -- everything from lobster and scallops to king crab.
Of course, for many, it's just as important to ring in 2016 looking fabulous. WCCO's Susan-Elizabeth Littlefield made a stop at the Blast Blow Dry Bar, where Kayli Ulrich was among those hard at work.
"New Year's Eve is definitely our busiest day. We never really have a break to sit down," she said. "A lot of up-dos, special looks (for) lots of parties that they're going out to."
At the salon, Betsy Peterson told WCCO that she was going to let someone else do the cooking Thursday night, along with her hair.
"(I'm going) out to dinner with one of my girlfriends," she said. "Hang out, have a couple drinks."
