Some Area Golf Courses Experience A Challenging Summer
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The summer was going just great until June 15 for many golf course owners in the Twin Cities.
"All of our five courses were in good shape," said Sara Ackmann, who is director of golf, ice and winter programs for the City of Minneapolis.
Then the rain started falling, and it flooded two of the five public courses in the city.
"I guess what has been the silver lining in all of this, is that people have come out to our other courses in big numbers," she said.
The conditions at the three other courses are the best the staff has seen in a long time.
"All in all, if you take out the flood our golf programs are improving," she said.

The numbers, however, are down just a bit.
The front 9 reopened at Hiawatha in July, and they just opened up the back nine and have started a new program called "Foot Golf."
Ackmann described it like soccer and golf combined.
