Soccer Stadium Tax Exemption Slated For Committee Vote

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A property tax exemption for a proposed Major League Soccer stadium in St. Paul for Minnesota United is set to go before a committee vote.

A continuation of a property tax exemption for the stadium site is included in an omnibus tax bill that's set to get voted on Tuesday by the Senate tax committee.

Players for Minnesota United dribbled soccer balls Monday outside the State Capitol. Team owner Bill McGuire spoke with lawmakers in March during a committee hearing, stressing the proposed stadium would be privately financed.

The team is also seeking a construction materials tax exemption and a liquor license. St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman says Minnesota United "needs certainty."
