Snow, Rain, Flooding Continues Through Sunday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Snow and rain will continue to fall throughout Minnesota well into Sunday with the possibility of a big snow storm beginning Sunday night in the extreme southwestern part of the state.
Northern Minnesota
According to WCCO meteorologist Lauren Casey, the northern part of the state has exclusively seen snowfall, which will also continue through the night. Saturday saw totals of up to 10 inches of heavy, wet snow falling from Duluth and up along the North Shore.
Southern Minnesota
As the rain continues, the south could see further threats of flooding - which has already caused the closure of southbound 169 between St. Peter and Mankato until Sunday. Mankato saw 1.31 inches of rain alone on Saturday. Making matters worse, a strong area of high pressure across the eastern seaboard will lock a storm system in place in the southwestern corner – possibly bringing more snow starting Sunday night and perhaps lasting til Tuesday.
Twin Cities Metro
The light rain in the metro will transition to light snow around 11 p.m. as temps cool down. The snow will continue through the night, but totals won't exceed one to two inches by Sunday morning. But blustery winds will pick up midday, and the metro could be on the northern edge of that possible snow storm in the southeast.
