Sir Paul McCartney To Perform At Target Field This Summer
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Music fans could call it a grand slam of a show. Two weeks after baseball's All-Stars come to Target Field, a music all-star will stand in center field.
Sir Paul McCartney's "Out There" tour will play at the Twins' ballpark on Saturday, Aug. 2. With about 40,000 tickets available, the concert is a guaranteed sell-out.
McCartney has a long history with Minnesota, starting in 1965 as Beatlemania came to the United States.
"He has played at every Twins stadium dating back to Met Stadium in 1965," said Chris Iles, Twins spokesman.
He's been here three times -- the last in 2005.
Minnesota is home to die-hard Beatles fans. The Electric Fetus knows them all too well.
"The Beatles and McCartney's music are popular because it's universal," said Alex Hamberger, an employee at the Minneapolis music store. "It's the kind of music we sell here at The Fetus to people of all ages. When we get (his albums) in, we sell them right away. They're always in demand."
"I'd say almost everybody out there has in their record collection, at least one good Beatles record," Hamberger said.
McCartney promises to feature music from his expansive catalog with songs as a solo artist, member of Wings and as a Beatle.
With a set up similar to the Kenny Chesney concerts the past two summers at Target Field, all fans will be close to the stage.
"The stage is in center field with seating across the entire field," Iles said. "We'll lose some seats in the outfield due to the layout, but what we lose there, we'll gain on the actual field."
Tickets start at around $40 and will go up to $250. They'll go on sale to the general public on Monday, April 28 at 10 a.m.
Minnesota Twins season ticket holders will be given advanced ticket opportunities. Tickets can be purchased on www.twinsbaseball.com.
